Rijksmuseum, founded in 1885, is a must-see. We didn't have nearly enough time to explore it properly (and I'm embarrassed to admit we didn't get to the Van Gogh Museum at all), but I'm happy we saw it. For anyone with an appreciation for art, especially painting, Rijksmuseum will be an inspiration.
